How do you react when someone you love is hurting? What do you do when you can’t make it better, can’t take away their pain?
In the last few days I saw a friend hurting, hurting deeply and nobody could make it better. Sometimes there just aren’t enough words or hugs…not that words and hugs and mere presence don’t comfort.
But mere humans can never give the comfort of the Almighty God. He “is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1) and his rod and staff comfort us (Psalm23:4).
This is a comforting thought both to those hurting and those watching someone hurting or least it can be if we let it.
How sweet it is to rest in the arms of God, a loving Father who knows all our hurts and sorrows. I hurt for my friend because I know she is hurting but I know that she is resting in those arms that never let go and that is a comforting thought.
